In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful Bilal Weekend Islamic School 1430 -1431 AH / 2009 -2010 CE www.BilalMasjid.com/sundayschool Curriculum Objectives A student who has attended 6 or more years of this weekend school should be competent in the following areas: (a) Recitation of Quran: The objective of the school is to facilitate students in the reading of the Quran (not learning Arabic language). (b) Memorization of Surahs & Duas: Memorize 15-20 Surahs (c) Salaat: Goal is to make sure children know how to perform the Salaat before they get to an age when it becomes mandatory. Students at all levels are regularly tested and graded on this. (e) Islamic Morals & Manners in the light of the Quran & the Hadith. (f) Faith & Worship: Articles of Faith, Five Pillars and Worship of Allah (SWT). (g) Seerah: Life history of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) -taught at various levels. (h) Introductory Islamic History: Brief overview of the Islamic history (i) Introduction to Prophets: Stories of Prophets for smaller children. General Daily Schedule At each grade level, these subject areas are covered 1. Quran 2. Seerah/Islamic Social Studies Curriculum Specifics For children in 1st Grade, teachers make extensive use of hands-on activities, story-telling and play-based activities. For higher grades, more emphasis is placed on Teachings/Meaning of Quran (as opposed to recitation) and general Islamic History (in addition to the Seera of the Prophet -SAW).
